Construction of an urban farm for self-comsuption on at unexistent place in a house. A project that actually needed to construct from before, a hanging wooden platform for it above of the house rooftop. A platform that would be supported on the sidewalls of the neighbors houses.
This action is an option to enable a domestic rooftop with an urban farm without resting area from it or adding excesive additional weight to the original structure. Moreover, this new structure provides shade to the upper space created for the arrival to the rooftop of the internal house stairs. The last step of the urban farm is the negotiation process held with the neighbors whom in a spontaneus way showed their support to the project. This allow us to retake the culture of doing informal actions without issuing any type of construction license, but, with a deep respect for the neighbors.
In this project we collaborate as friends contributing to it with our self-building experience apart of the fact of remember that the personal and group relationships get reinforced when something in common is done for the improvement of the house of one of their individual; actions that go from the installation of a water system on a traditional squatted house to a construction of an urban farm on a house for familiar entertainment.
On the project we reused 4 wooden beams that were self-built, and that were used before on the evaluation action of the Ciudad Aljarafe project. The beam webs were made from OSB and the beam flanges from pinewood. On addition to it, these elements were fixed with resin rawlplugs to the side walls with the objective of giving resistance to the structure and avoid the water leaking on the neighbors walls. The upper grid was done with metallic frames remains from the Aula Abierta Sevilla project. The wooden platform was found in a waste skip. Finally, it is important to mention that the plantpots of 2m x 1m were given together with some advices about cropping from other friends.
