TEMPORAL PUBLIC SPACES

In October of the 2003, we made the same strategy of occupation in the lot of "Calle Olivar48-50" of the district of "Lavapiés" in Madrid, this time in collaboration with "El Laboratorio", group evacuated 4 times of different buildings, and that during 6 years of nomadism in the district, they debate and they act on the speculation, the citizen participation and the difference (so hardly defensible).

The structural system, used normally for the stabilization of facades, constructs a volume that we covered with plastic moulds (casetones) used for the construction of sanitary "forjado" of concrete, which we found in the lot, solution invented by the precarious means in which the project was made.

Different members from "Labo" obtain different materials with which to continue the work and to make that new occupied place more pleasant and full of life. Events of very different character happened there, becoming an independent cultural agitation place, with the peculiar situation of being contiguous to the occupied lot, with the cultural center of "Lavapiés" of the Community of Madrid.

The simple fact of trying to take these proposals afloat, evidence that the development of these activities describe liberating impulses that produce a temporal emancipation, of the ordered and limiter structures of the urban life. The alienation generalized of the human groups to a society pathetically accommodated, to all the levels, is destroyed instantaneously by which of subversive way, commit such actions, that beyond producing changes in structures that accredit and control suppose a critical parody that demonstrates the incapacities of the same ones to limit the complex reality.

EXECUTION UNIT

Internationally renowned artist misappropriates a cultural program, broadening its scope, by participating in the MAD 03 contemporary art contest, which provides a per-project budget of 2000 €, used for the assembly of a structure that will be part of a cultural and social centre self-managed by the Madrid Ideas Laboratory collective. This assembly works to show the viability of the occupation of plots of land in the personal campaign begun, as an architect, with the installation of non-architecture in the plot of ground on Barco street in Sevilla (A005).  It includes: making the most of the economic resources available, which requires postponement of the building start (until the end of the artistic meeting), with the intention of obtaining a rent that guarantees a greater useful life; verbal agreement regarding the unpaid occupation of the plot; the stock of a friend, who for 100 € obtains favors from a person who arranges for the cases used as moulds for closing the module to 'disappear' from an inventory; community volunteer labour put into looking for and collecting materials, and the co-operation of a canine couple.
